This collaboration came into being as a celebration of the piano and an exploration of the
possibilities of the instrument. Marconi and Neame will perform a mixture of originals and
2-piano arrangements of music written by other composers. This will include repertoire as
diverse as “Seven Days” by Sting to “Maple Leaf Rag” by Scott Joplin. During the lockdown
Neame also arranged and recorded original music for multiple pianos – the two pianists will
be performing textural and percussive interpretations of these pieces incorporating
extended and traditional techniques.
Neame’s original music is an exploration of contrast and represents an ongoing quest to
house multiple musical styles and influences under one roof. This varied mix of sonic
landscapes springs from a desire to find emotional resonance with audiences in as many
ways as possible. The styles of the pieces range from serene, calm and reflective
atmospheres to intense, high-octane, polyrhythmic grooves. Improvising will be at the heart
of the duo’s approach to dealing with all of these musical structures - an eclectic and
exciting hour of music is guaranteed
